Emanuel Sandström started as a trainee at Transtema. During the trainee program, he rotated between different departments and gained experience in a variety of tasks. This experience has now led him to a new role as Bid Manager, where he leads bidding processes and collaborates with colleagues from various parts of the company to secure new business.
What sparked your interest in Transtema’s trainee program?
– With five years of studies at the School of Business and experience as a management consultant alongside my studies, I realized that a broad role would give me the opportunity to develop and be challenged. Therefore, a trainee program was perfect, as it offered the chance to expand my skills in the way I desired.
– What caught my interest in Transtema was that the company was in the middle of an exciting phase of change. The opportunity to combine my creative and analytical skills, explore new ideas, and effectively utilize existing resources appealed to me. I looked forward to working both internally and with customers. I was motivated by the chance to continuously learn and understand new connections in various areas.
How would you describe your time as a trainee at Transtema?
– My time as a trainee at Transtema was both rewarding and challenging. Early on, I was given responsibility for a business development project, which meant I was in contact with several departments across the entire group. This experience allowed me to quickly learn about the company’s operations, our internal processes, and how the industry works. I was also involved early on in customer meetings and collaborations with various companies within the group, as well as supporting the sales department in their work. It was especially enjoyable when I had the opportunity to accompany one of our technicians for a day. This gave me a practical understanding of the products and services that are central to our business.
– In summary, my trainee period was not only incredibly fun but also very educational, and it has played a significant role in my development. What also contributes to my enjoyment at Transtema is the presence of so many competent and friendly people, which makes the workplace enjoyable and stimulating.
What have you learned during your trainee period that you use in your current role?
– I have gained many valuable tools and insights from my trainee period. Fresh out of school, you are often more theoretically inclined, but the trainee period gave me the opportunity to apply what I had learned in school to real-life situations. This was possible thanks to the close collaboration with colleagues and the insight I gained into various departments. Building early connections within the company makes it easier when you work together again in the future.
Would you recommend others to apply for the trainee position at Transtema?
– Absolutely! There are many different trainee positions on the market, but few companies can offer something as varied as Transtema’s trainee program. Even though Transtema is a large corporation, it still feels like a close-knit community, and you feel included in the workplace.
What is your role today?
– Today, I work as a Bid Manager, which means I lead bidding processes to secure new business. The role is both fun and varied, with project-based work that involves close collaboration with colleagues from different departments. As a Bid Manager, no day is the same as the next. My work involves overseeing tenders, qualifying and producing bids, as well as designing and pricing solution proposals. Sometimes, I interact with potential customers, while other days are spent developing bid materials in the office. The workdays vary depending on the type and scope of the project, but the highlight is always receiving the news that we have won a deal.
Can you share a particular memory from your trainee period?
– Although I was only in a supporting role and therefore can’t take much credit, it was very exciting to be involved in a Nordic deal that we recently won. It’s amazing to read a press release about such a deal and know that I got to be part of it during my trainee period.
