Lars is a senior network consultant at Transtema. With a background as a computer engineer and 19 years in the industry, he possesses both extensive knowledge of the field and practical experience that he utilizes daily. Lars greatly values the relationships he has with colleagues and customers, which contributes significantly to his job satisfaction. The variety of his tasks and the supportive team are the main reasons he enjoys working at Transtema.
What Does a Network Consultant Do?
– Working as a network consultant means that I work both on a project basis and as a dedicated resource hired out for specific assignments. My primary task is to ensure that the network functions as it should.
– My days can involve anything from simpler technical adjustments on individual network devices to extensive migration projects where all equipment in a broadband network might need to be replaced. Every workday starts with prioritizing tasks from a comprehensive list that spans everything from troubleshooting to complex network design.
– I also have daily contact with our customers. They often have a technical resource on-site who acts as a technical sounding board, facilitating effective collaboration and allowing us to meet their specific needs. This means no two days are the same, and this variety is something I truly enjoy.
Started his career as a Network Technician
– Basically, I have an education as a computer engineer, where the focus was mostly on programming and various systems, rather than on networking and broadband. My entry into the telecom industry was somewhat accidental. I ended up in an internship at a company that later became part of Transtema, and here I am still today. I started as a network technician, troubleshooting broadband networks for local property companies in Gävle and Sandviken. The work mainly involved troubleshooting broadband networks both at technical stations and at customers’ homes. Later, my role evolved into being a dedicated consultant, focused on supporting network owners with everything from design to configuration of their broadband networks.
Change and Unity at Work
– What I really appreciate about my job is that my tasks constantly change, and that the telecom industry is in continuous development. But what truly makes me enjoy my work are my colleagues. We have a fantastic atmosphere at work, not just during coffee breaks, but also in our daily collaboration.
– I believe the key to thriving in a workplace is to have good colleagues and to be in a company that prioritizes development and supports you in it. These factors not only keep me engaged and motivated, but also make the workday fun and inspiring.
Participated in developing Transtema’s network audit
– I saw a need among network owners to fully understand and control their networks. A broadband network is much more than just its hardware; it also includes various support systems like monitoring, provisioning, password management, and logging—not to mention important network diagrams. Since these systems often need to be manually updated, information quickly becomes outdated. It is not uncommon for names or models of the equipment to change without the information being updated in all systems. My idea was to introduce a network audit that ensures all these systems continuously reflect the actual status of the network.

Memorable Consulting Assignment in Hälsingland
– I have worked here for a while, and something I still remember is when I worked as a hired consultant for a company in Hälsingland. My workdays regularly involved commuting to Edsbyn, where I helped develop routines and documentation for their broadband network, as well as carry out an important migration process.
– The project also involved working at night. One night, during a planned service window, I was on my way from Gävle past Bollnäs when the IT manager at the company I was consulting for called me. He asked me to stop by his place on the way. When I arrived, he opened the door with a big smile and handed me a thermos of strong coffee and some buns for the night’s work when fatigue set in, and energy began to wane. This gesture of care is an example of the type of relationships and collaboration that I and the entire company highly value. Such personal meetings and support play a significant role in how we succeed in delivering our services and building long-term customer relationships
