Nermin Memic is a project manager at Transtema, he has worked in the industry and at the company for many years. Nermin started at Transtema in 2016 as a fiber technician and became a lead technician before he moved into the role of project manager. His role, and the company as a whole, have changed a lot over the years.

What do your workdays look like?

I am responsible for various fiber projects around the Gothenburg and Kungsbacka area. My assignment includes keeping track of projects and our deliveries. This means that I plan upcoming jobs, keep track of timelines, assign jobs to technicians, follow up on how the jobs are going, and am responsible for the finances in the projects. I work closely with a smaller group of technicians, where a large part of their time is spent on tasks related to the agreements I am responsible for. I also have a lot of contact with the customers within these agreements.

What attracted you to the industry?

I studied the electrical program in high school, and when I was about to start working after high school, I wanted to continue developing and learning new things. I then started working as a fiber technician at a smaller company and learned how fiber works. Fiber was quite new at the time, and it was being expanded on a large scale. I thought it seemed exciting to enter an industry with a lot of work and opportunities for development. After a few years at that company, I switched and started working as a fiber technician at Transtema.

How has your work changed since you started at Transtema?

I started as a fiber technician where I helped expand the fiber network throughout West Sweden. In the morning, I could be working in Halmstad and in the afternoon in Borås. They were varied and fun days. After a few years, I got the role of field supervisor and was responsible for leading the other technicians in their work. When I had been working with that for a while, I wanted to move to a new position, and in 2019 I got the role I have today. Today, my position doesn’t involve as much travel as before, but I often visit customers’ sites and participate in final inspections of many assignments.

Transtema has changed and grown a lot since I started, which I think is fun because I have been able to grow with the company and change roles.

What is the best thing about your job?

The colleagues! I really enjoy working with the group of technicians I work closely with and other colleagues at the office. I also like that I have a lot of freedom to plan and organize my work. Having a lot of responsibility suits me, and I get that in my role.

A great advantage of being part of a larger company is that there are more development opportunities and many colleagues to bounce ideas off!

What is your best memory from Transtema?

A job that stands out from the years that have passed is when Musikhjälpen was in Gothenburg in 2022. A prerequisite for them to be able to broadcast is, of course, that there is a stable connection in the cage, and we had the opportunity to build the network and connect it to the existing network. Much of the work was not done in the cage but at a nearby location. When the work was finished, I got a guided tour of the entire cage and the surrounding areas. I got to see the broadcast room, which was full of TV screens and equipment to control the broadcast, the hosts’ own small rooms where they sleep, and the cage itself from the inside. It was fun to see!
